Founded in 1873, Polytechnique Montréal is part of the largest Francophone university campus in North America and represents the largest engineering university in Québec for the size of its graduate student body and the scope of its research activities. Polytechnique welcomes more than 8,000 students per year, supported by 255 professors recruited internationally from which 90% hold a PhD degree. Professors are assisted by professionals, technicians and administrative personnel, which account for 1,400 employees. Since its creation, Polytechnique Montréal has educated nearly one-quarter of the current members of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec.

With agreements with some 250 institutions from all over the world, international students account for more than one-quarter of Polytechnique’s student body, including 15% coming from the Middle East and North Africa region. Polytechnique offers one of the most diverse student environments in Canada where international students can evolve in an enriching and inclusive bilingual community. Also, Polytechnique proposes many initiatives to improve the quality of students' learning experience, including numerous technical societies and student committees.

With cutting-edge infrastructures, Polytechnique Montréal is a world-class center of science and technology, and ranks in the top three Canadian universities for its total research funding in the STEM fields. The university also conducts some of Canada’s most intensive research activities through its 60 research units and a faculty comprising world-renowned experts. It has an annual operating budget of over $200 million, including a research budget of approximately $100 million, providing excellent research opportunities and top conditions for graduate students.

Every newly graduated engineer has benefited from work experience in industry (mandatory work terms) and hands-on projects, which has contributed to their successful placement. In 2014-2015, the placement rate of our graduate engineers who integrated the labor market was as follows: 32% after 1 month; 50% after 4 months; 70% after 8 months; and 95% after 12 months. Many alumni from the Arab League countries have distinguished themselves in their home country after their studies at Polytechnique Montréal, Canada.
